Independent Post: December

I have recently started working on my mentorship. The high school's basketball league barely started near the end of November and the approval process to be allowed on the school's campus took over a week. I've only managed to log a few mentorship hours because the school's students are on vacation. But I should be able to work on my mentorship hours every day once they return. Also, I have almost completed the thirty hours of the independent component.

Independent Post: Basketball Game

My team and Iost this game by two points. Iscored about half of my team's points and was seven for eight on the free throw line. I scored around twenty or so points. This was great because I've been focusing on perfecting my shot from the line since I am constantly getting fouled. That's me shooting a free throw in the picture. Also, the high school basketball season has started recently so I will begin my mentorship within the week.

EQ

1.) I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.

2a.) It seems like the answer to this EQ is either exercise or dieting. I don't really see what else it could be. Missing "Takes a stance (Allows you to argue some point, Cannot be a recitation of facts or a list)"

2b.) The wording of this EQ doesn't really make sense to me. The wording could be better. Missing "Format (It is specific, The wording makes sense)"

2c.) This EQ meets the rule of three criteria.

2d.) This EQ seems like it only has one answer. Missing "Takes a stance (Allows you to argue some point, Cannot be a recitation of facts or a list)"

3.) What is the most important thing to win a game of basketball?

Independent post

Due to a recent knee injury, I have not been able to play with my team for two weeks. But I still go to our games because I'm still part of the team. Playing basketball is part of my Independent component but I haven't been able to work on it for a week and a half. I should be recovered by next week.

Research and Working EQ

1.  What is your working EQ?
What is the most important feature a basketball player should have to win a game?

2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer in thesis format
Determination, because it keeps the player focused and the player's goal of winning in the front of their mind.

3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your
working EQ?
I have used many articles from the same website, basketballsuccess.com, that almost of them say determination is one of the most important qualities of a player.

4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you volunteering, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?
My mentor is Coach Jason Parks. I will be observing how he coaches along side him to determine what he thinks is the most important feature a basketball player should have.

Independent Component Approval

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
Since my senior topic is on basketball, I plan to play and practice basketball to improve my skills as a player.

2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.
I already practice twice a week for about two hours each practice and I have a game every Friday, so I shouldn't have have a problem meeting the expected 30 hours. While I'm practicing, I will be keeping a stat sheet to record my shooting percentage and use that stat sheet as evidence.

3.  And explain how what you will be doing will help you explore your topic in more depth.
I will be focusing more on improving my shooting. This will help me explore my topic in more depth because I will be using drills and tips professional players use. Also, it will give me a chance to understand what great players go through to get to were they are.

Independent Post: Interview Schedule

Today I contacted my mentor and tried to establish a date for the interview. We didn't establish a specific date but we did manage to narrow it down to some time next week. I will try to schedule the interview as soon as possible but I have to work with my mentor's schedule as well.

Independent post

Today I delivered the senior project packet to the high school that requested it. They said everything should be okay but they just wanted to verify I will use their campus for school purposes only. Also, I'm still waiting on a response from the head coach to allow me to be on the courts. My mentor said he'd say yes but we have to ask before anyone uses the courts. I should get a response within the week.

Blog #5 Project Reflection and Working EQ

The Pentagon:
(1) Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?

As of right now, nothing positive has happened to me as a result of what I have completed so far. I suppose one thing would be that I have gained useful information to help me become a better basketball player.

(2) EQ Content: Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?

Out of the six pieces of research I have acquired this year so far, there is one in particular that was very helpful in helping me understand my topic. The article is called, "How to Take Your Offense to Another Level".

(3) What has worked for you so far in the senior project?

Something that has worked for me this year is asking lots of questions when I'm unclear about something.

(4) What hasn't worked so far?

Something that hasn't worked for me is not going to the library and checking out books on my topic. But I plan to change that.

(5) Finding Value:
  •  What is a potential question you would like to study this year?  (working EQ)
One question I have been thinking of to be my potential working EQ is something along the lines of, "What          makes an All-Star basketball player?
  •  What do you plan to do for mentorship?  If you haven't found a mentor yet, then discuss where you are currently looking and who you are talking to to find it.
I plan to mentor one of my prior basketball coaches. He has already agreed to mentor me.

Blog #4

1.  Who do you plan to interview?  Why?

I plan to interview one of my prior coaches, Michael Martinez. He is very knowledgeable about basketball and I am certain he can answer any follow up questions I might have for him.

 2.  You have to ask 5 questions.  What additional questions do you plan to ask?

-What qualities do you believe make up an all-star player?
-What determines weather you win or lose a game?

Blog 3

1.  List your topic here: Basketball

2.  What do you plan to do this year to show growth in each of the ESLRs?  Be specific and use an example.  Examples can come from senior project, model assembly, core, and/or participation in senior class ASB or other organizations on campus (clubs etc).

Effective Learner- To become a more effective learner, I plan to use all my time in class effectively. When it's time to do Cornell notes, I won't be fooling around or quick to finish because I know how crucial research is to my Senior Project. I also plan to be responsible for my own actions and not blame others for them.

Effective Communicator- This year I plan to contribute more to my group(s). In order to achieve that I am going to put in more work and more effort into the group to work for the AE instead of the P. In order to do this, I will make sure to put in more work hours.

Effective User of Technology- This year I want to get better at incorporating technology into learning. I believe it will be more relative and easier to grasp if technology is being used to teach a lesson. For that reason, whenever I am presenting something I want to use the ipads once or twice to help get my point across.

Effective I-Poly citizen- In order to become a more effective ipoly citizen, I will definitely help others who are struggling with a topic if I understand it. To accomplish this, I will tutor them during lunch or after school.

Blog 2: Summer Mentorship

Literal

1. Summer Mentorship Log

2. Contact Info:

    Name: Angel Delgado Jr.
    Number: (909)559-4973

3. What questions were raised because of the 10 hours experience? List them.

Why do truck drivers have to stay within the first two lanes of the freeway?
How do you know if someone is in your blind spot?
How much diesel does it take to fill up both tanks and how many miles will it take you?
Why are big rigs not allowed on certain streets?

Interpretive

4. What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?

The most important thing I gained from this is realizing how much work is needed to get all your products to store shelves. Before I did my mentorship, I didn't really think about where all the things I buy came from and how they got there. It was very interesting seeing the complete process to get a product from the company to the consumer. I also learned many helpful tips from my mentor to make me a better, safer driver.
Applied

5. How did what you did help you choose a topic? Please explain.

To be honest, I didn't really like the topic I chose this summer. It wasn't for me. I realized I don't want to work on something I don't like all year. I would rather do my senior project on something I enjoy. Th tat's why I have decided to change my senior topic to something else.

Blog Assignment #1

1.) The presentations I saw were
Acting- Dean
Tae Kwan Doe- Indra
Teaching Elementary Science- Joseph
Non-profit Organization- Audrianna
All Star Cheer leading- Priscilla
Water Treatment- Ryan
Structural Engineering- Andy
Physical Therapy- Elizabeth
Turntablism-

2.) What I was wondering is is this the only component you focus on senior year or are there more? It seems like this is what takes up most of the time during senior year.

3.) What I learned from the senior presentations were a lot of do's and don'ts. I had many great examples that I will refer back to when I am working on my presentation. Also, I did learn at least one thing from each topic.

4.) I am thinking about doing a topic related to engineering only because I plan to pursue a career in engineering. I figure it'll help learn and get a head start on my path. Also, I find engineering very cool.
